Avoid Automatic Installation of updates while shutting down of Notebook PC

On a notebook it is better to decide yourself when windows should install the available updates. Suppose you are on low battery and while your computer is shutting down , it is installing updates, and if suddenly the computer turns off( due to low battery), it may cause system instabiliy. Though you can recover by using restore points( that are created by windows update,in this case, so as to backup the windows ) , but it is advisable to turnoff the installation of updates if your Notebook is on battery and instead the update installation should take place when your notebook is on AC power. Just do the following:
Open notepad and type the following( in the same way)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAU AsDefaultShutdownOption"=dword:00000001

Now save the above file with name "disable_au_shutdn.reg" and close the file. Now double click on the file name and select "Yes" when prompted.

  2. no dude... i'm not doing any kinda activity..
m just helping people to find the information. I don't think a lot of people knew about this registry hack.
And also IF THIS IS A COPY PASTE ACTIVITY THEN I WOULD NOT HAVE PROVIDED THE LINK TO THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S PAGE. I always respect the copyright sentiments of the original authors and so I PROVIDE links to the original page rather than just copying the article.

I know people like you very well, i'm sorry to say this but you people always consider yourself as the master and if any other one does something good( even without violating the copyrights), you people always try to suppress them. I'm sorry to say this but that's the truth. And i know registry more better than you!! I've spent my entire semester on it.
I just tried to keep the above article simple, so thought to avoid the use of complex method, btw here's how you can to it:

  3. Open notepad and type the following( in the same way)

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]

    EXPLANATION:
    1. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
In the above method first you need to tell Windows that on what version of registry windows has to work.
So the line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" means that this registry tweak is for Windows Vista or later, it'll not work on previous versions. To make it work on previous versions just change the version number.

2.In the next line you are creating( or migrating if AU is already created) a registry key "AU".

3.Now you are creating a variable of type "dword"( a data type used in programming of Windows application) and providing it value "1" which means "true" ( in this case ONLY ). So, we are telling windows to disable the automatic shutdown option..

At last i want say that, you don't only need to learn registry but also understand how the hacks are done and why( not just memorize the path). Mind you!!
